Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. While she was a small girl, Catherine Ford struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word association. Ford became interested in acting during her teenage years and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she didn't fit in. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot on her third attempt she applied for and was awarded a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor went on to get regular roles in the shows Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
